Avanindranath’s literary criticism ‘Samskriti Samveda’ released

                        

Delhi based Kannada writer Dr. Y. Avanindranath Rao’s book on literary criticism ‘Samskriti Samveda’ released at Delhi Karnataka Sangha recently.

Releasing the book Dr.Venkatachala Hegade, Professor in Jawaharlal Nehru University said that the writing criticism needs a kind of devotion and Dr.Rao’s book made a critical insight into a few important literature.

Author Avanindranath said that the ultimate purpose of literary criticism is attaining the knowledge by understanding the literature and hoped his book may well received by the readers.   

The versatile Indian dance performer Devika Rao from United Kingdom participated as special guest on the occasion.  President of Delhi Karnataka Sangha Vasantha Shetty Bellare preside over the function.

The book ‘ Sanskriti Samveda’ contains  fourteen critical articles includes  on the epic ‘’Shri Ramayana Mahanweshanam’’ written by Poet and Politician Dr. M. Veerappa Moily,  Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Geetanjali’ and a perspective on Karnataka history. Well known critic Dr.Purushottama Bilimale in his review observed that the book consisting diversified elements on Art, Literature and History.

In the Preface Eminent Kannada scholar Professor Sa.Shi.Marulayya described Avanindranath as ‘Savya Saachi ’. Dr.Avanindranath Rao is a senior officer in Central Secretariat Library under Ministry of Culture, New Delhi. Priyam and Shivani perform Bharatanatyam

Bharatanatyam arangettram of Priyam Sarpal and Shivani Amin was organised by Nritya Abhinaya at New Delhi on May 19, 2012. The disciples of Guru Usha Rao commenced their first stage performance with Pushpanjali in Adi Talam on Karnatakadevagandhari ragam.

The debut of these two talented youngesters continued with Alaripu in chatusra ekam talam, jathiswaram in tisra ekam, ammaludan in adi tisra gali talam and varnam in adi talam in karaharapriya raga. The performance reached another level when these two dancers performed for Meera bhajan jo tum todo piya in adi talam, sindhu bhairavi raga.The continued to perform Shiva Shakti, chaliya and Tillana before concluding the show. 

Guru Usha Rao helped in Nattuvangam. Vocal by S. Sathyanarayanan, Mridangam by S. Shankar, Flute by G. Raghuraman and Violin by Kalaimamani VSK Chakrapani was also highlight of the performance. R. Suchitra compered the programme.

Proud parents Rekha and Naveen Sarpal as well as Malathi and Ganesh Amin felicitated the Guru and musicians. 

A 11th standard student of Delhi Public School, Dwarka, New Delhi Priyam was learning the classical dance since she was five years of age. She holds senior diploma in Prayag Sangit Samiti, Allahabad.

Shivani also with a senior diploma in Bharatanatyam from Prayag Sangit Samiti, Allahabad is a class 12 student at Hans Raj Model School, Punjabi Bagh, New Delhi.   

Guru Usha Rao is the torchbearer of a unique tradition of legendary Pandanallur Chinnayya Pillai, where she has been trained in Bharatanatyam.

“Art is inextricably linked to human existence and is an unavoidable companion of human existence…art on another plane depicts the universal emotions of pleasure and pain,” said Vice-President Hamid Ansari at an award ceremony organised here on Monday to facilitate young artists in the name of the living legend Sayed Haider Raza.
The “Raza Samman” award, sponsored by Jawaharlal Darda Foundation, is meant to encourage young artists and carries a cash prize of Rs.5 lakh. This year's first recipient is 39-year-old B. Manjunath Kamath, whose art varies from the conventional to the contemporaneous mode.
“I cannot express myself through words so I try to express myself through visuals,” said an overwhelmed Manjunath, who confessed that it was the first time he was speaking on stage and in front of an audience.
Lalit Kala Akademi chairman Ashok Vajpeyi lauded the young artist: “Manjunath Kamath is trying to navigate the unseen, the untested and the impossible. Once he succeeds, we will be proud to say we were the first to honour him.”
“There are hundreds and thousands who have tried and failed as they could not keep body and soul together. We owe it, as part of society to help such artists,” said Mr. Ansari, adding that state as well as individual patronage was needed to sustain art, quoting examples of Mughul rulers like Jahangir who encouraged artists and the suppression by the British Raj of any art that represented harsh reality. “Booklets made from a painting depicting graphic images of the Bengal famine of 1943 were confiscated and destroyed by the British but one survived - the original which was gifted by the artist to his mother -- art is not abstract but is part of our history,” he said.
Eighty nine-year-old Sayed Haider Raza is one of the foremost pioneers of modern Indian art who overcame poverty and low self worth to achieve incredible success. “When I was 18, I thought I was worthless. It was only painting that gave me a reason to be, I used all my concentration on art,” said the artist, who was born in a dusty village in pre-Independent India and whose love for art made him travel to Nagpur and then to France where he spent around 60 years before returning for good to India, propelled by the need to re-acquaint himself with the country of his birth.
“In the silence of the night after a really successful exhibition, I thought to myself: Where is India in my paintings? This is French art.”
Sayed Haider Raza had a message to all the young artists gathered at the ceremony: “We should not be in a hurry, concentrate without thinking of results or money.”

The Gig Week

Delhi’s first independent and upcoming artist’s summit The Gig Week will be held at various venues across the city.

The Gig Week is a music jamboree that plans to highlight unique acts alongside the usual staple of wailing guitars and rocked-out lead vocals by angst boys.

Barefaced Liar, Urban Soundscape, Jester, Big Bang Blues, Katai Bum and Colossal Figures are six Delhi acts scheduled for the first week of August.

Established names like Them Clones, Advaita and Cyanide will also be the part of The Gig Week that will take place between 31 July and 6 August in Delhi.

The gigs have been planned across Delhi nightclubs such as G-Spot, Cafe Oz, Turquoise Cottage and Cafe Morrison.

TimeOut will organize a week-long festival featuring upcoming bands and singer-songwriters.

Rounak Maita + Cobbled Street + Anuradha Sajjanhar +Doppler Effect

Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Rounak Maiti is partial to minimalistic acoustic guitar. Cobbled Street’s music is equal parts jazz, world music and a cappella vocals. Anuradha Sajjanhar offers a breezy listening experience. Doppler Effect’s music is a blend of rock and funk.

MoonShadow Frequency + Bhaanu Mendiratta + Dementia

MoonShadow Frequency from Gurgaon dabble in psychedelia, funk, alternative rock, blues and trip hop. Bhaanu Mendiratta’s mellow John Mayer-ish voice can give you goosebumps. Adding a darker edge to proceedings is New Delhi-based progressive metal experimental band Dementia.

NAGPUR: For Indian art's living legend Syed Haider Raza, Nagpur holds a special place in his heart. After all, his tryst with the canvas and its riot of colours began at Nagpur. Acknowledging this fact and also celebrating it is the Jawaharlal Darda Foundation, which has instituted an award - the Raza Puraskar - in the legendary artist's name.
Foundation chairman, Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Darda said, "The award is to encourage young artists of the country. We are sure this will help in the promotion of art as well. This award will be given on Raza saab's birthday which falls on February 22. But, this being the maiden year of the award, it will be given away in New Delhi. 39-year-old Manjunath Kamath has been selected for the honour." The award carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakhs.
Born in Mangalore, Manjunath obtained his Bachelor's degree in sculpture from the Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts, Mysore, and was a 2002 'Artist in Residence' at the School of Art and Design, Cardiff in UK. He now lives in Delhi and has a studio in Hauz Khas village. Manjunath, who has had many solo exhibitions. uses a lot of imagery on canvas, updating his visual vocabulary and pushing the boundaries to create something new.

Lauding Manjunath's work, Darda said, "This award is meant for new names which show promise and Manjunath is one of them. At various international exhibitions he has been the face of India and that's how he beat over 100 entries, which included many known names like Satish Gujral, Akbar Padamsee, Prabhakar Kolte, to earn this award. We will soon be showcasing his art in Nagpur too."
Members in the jury panel of the award included chairman of Lalit Kala Academy Ashok Vajpeyi, renowned painter Manu Parekh, noted filmmaker Kumar Sahani and art editor Bhavna Kakar.

ಕಲಾವಿದರಾದ ಸುಧೀರ್ ಫಡ್ನೀಸ್, ರಮೇಶ್ ಪಚ್‍ಪಾಂಡೇ, ಎಫ್.ವಿ.ಚಿಕಮಠ್, ದೇವೇಂದ್ರ ಎಂ. ಬಡಿಗೇರ್, ದಯಾನಂದ ಕಮಾಕರ್, ಬಿ.ಪಿ.ಕಾರ್ತಿಕ್ ಅವರ ಕಲಾಕೃತಿಗಳ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನವು ದೆಹಲಿಯ ಐಫಾಕ್ಸ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಜನವರಿ 18ರಿಂದಿಂದ 24 ರ ವರೆಗೆ ನಡೆಯಿತು. 
ಇಂಡಿಯ ಆರ್ಟ್ ಸಮ್ಮಿಟ್ ನ ಸಮಾನಾಂತರವಾಗಿ ನಡೆದ ಈ ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಕ್ಕೆ ಉತ್ತಮ ಪ್ರತಿಕ್ರಿಯೆ ದೊರಕಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಕಲಾವಿದ ಸುಧೀರ್ ಫಡ್ನೀಸ್ ಅವರು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು. ಕಲಾವಿದರು ತಮ್ಮ ನೂತನ ಕಲಾಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರದರ್ಶನಗೊಳಿಸಿದರು. 
ಬಿ.ಪಿ. ಕಾರ್ತಿಕ್ ಅವರ ಕೃತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಅಸಂಗತೆಗಳ ಜತೆಗೆ ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ವಿಲಕ್ಷಣತೆಯನ್ನು ಕಾಣಬಹುದಿತ್ತು. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಲ್ಲೆ ನೆಲೆಸಿರುವ ಈ ಕಲಾವಿದ ಬಣ್ಣಗಳಿಂದ ಕ್ಯಾನ್‍ವಾಸ್ ಮೇಲೆ ಕಾವ್ಯವನ್ನು ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಹಳೆಯ ಚೌಕಟ್ಟುಗಳಿಗೆ ಹೊಸದಾದ ತಾಜತನದಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ ಬಗೆಯನ್ನು ಬರೆಯುವ ಇವರ ಕಲಾಕೃತಿಗಳು ನಮ್ಮನ್ನು ಸುಂದರ ಲೋಕವೊಂದಕ್ಕೆ ಕೊಂಡೊಯ್ಯುತ್ತವೆ.
ಬಿಜಾಪುರ ಮೂಲದ ದೇವೇಂದ್ರ ಬಡೀಗೇರ್ ಅವರ ಕಲಾಕೃತಿಗಳು ನೈಜ ಬದುಕಿನ ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟತೆಗಳನ್ನು ತೋರುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ರಮೇಶ್ ಪಚ್‍ಪಾಂಡೇ ಅವರು ಪೇಪರ್ ಮತ್ತು ಇದ್ದಿಲ ಮೂಲಕ ರಚಿಸಿದ ಕಲಾಕೃತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರದರ್ಶಿಸಿದರು.
ಸುಧೀರ್ ಫಡ್ನೀಸ್ ಅವರ ಕಲಾಕೃತಿಗಳು ಬದುಕಿನ ವಿವಿಧ ಸ್ತರಗಳ ಆಳವನ್ನು ಪ್ರತಿಬಿಂಬಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು. ಸಮಗ್ರ ವಿಶ್ವವನ್ನೇ ತಮ್ಮೊಳಗಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿರುವ ಇವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಭಾವನೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕುಂಚದ ಮೂಲಕ ಕ್ಯಾನ್‍ವಾಸ್‍ನಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಡಿದು ತೋರಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.ಸಡಗರ, ಸಂವೇದನೆ ಮತ್ತು ಆಧುನಿಕ ಬದುಕಿನ ಉತ್ಸುಕತೆಗಳು ಇವರ ಕೃತಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಣಬಹುದು.
