The second edition of the IHC Indian Languages Festival, Samanvay, is scheduled from November 2 – 4, 2012.
This year, the festival’s theme is Gaon–Kasba–Sheher:Boli-Bani–Bhasha
Since inception,the Centre has endeavored to create platforms for public discourse across different genres of the pursuit of excellence by Indian minds. ‘Samanvay’ is a platform for bringing together expressions of human thought in the varied and diverse cultural contexts that have been nurtured and have flourished in many languages that are spoken in our cultural milieu. These conversations amongst brilliant and well-known writers will seek to bring to our audiences the sparkle of multilingual expressions and their inspirations.
INDIA HABITAT CENTRE
The India Habitat Centre was conceived to provide a physical environment which would serve as a catalyst for a synergetic relationship between individuals and institutions working in diverse habitat related areas and, therefore, maximise their total effectiveness. To facilitate this interaction, the Centre provides a range of facilities.
Two of the greatest theater personalities of the country, Chandrasekhar Kambar and Ratan Thiyam will inaugurate Samanvay.
Jnanpith laureate Kambar is a pioneering Kannada playwright , poet, folklorist and critic whose works have influenced generations of readers and writers all over the country. He is known for his effective usage of North Karnataka dialect of Kannada language in his plays and poems. Dr. Kambar’s plays mainly revolves around folk or mythology interlinked with contemporary issues, inculcating modern lifestyle with his hard-hitting poems and has became a pioneer of such literature. His contribution as a playwright is significant to the Indian theater as he achieved a blend of the folk and the modern theatrical forms.
Internationally acclaimed playwright and director Ratan Thiyam is one of the leading figures of the “theater of roots” movement which started in 1970s. He i is known for writing and staging plays that use ancient Indian theater traditions and forms in a contemporary context. He is also the founder-director of ‘Chorus Repertory Theater’, formed on the outskirts of Imphal, Manipur in 1976.
